Firearms Online Application

You can now complete your New Jersey State Police (NJSP) Firearms Application online. The following are instructions on how to apply online for a Firearms Identification Card or Permit to Purchase a Handgun.

STEP 1

Log on to www.njportal.com/njsp/fars

STEP 2

The Raritan Police Department’s ORI # – NJ0181600. This is required to complete the application online. Follow the instructions listed in the Service Information box of the website for fingerprint requirements. Note: Applicants must be fingerprinted within 90 days, or they will be withdrawn from the application process.

STEP 3

Complete the online application. You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. When completing the application you will need the email addresses of two (2) reputable references.

**Important Note** Please review the entire application for accuracy prior to submitting it. If your application is submitted with errors or information was omitted, the Raritan Police Dept. does not have the ability to make corrections or add additional information and you will be required to submit a new application.

STEP 4

Payment may be by personal check or money order payable to the Borough of Raritan. Cash will not be accepted. Payment will be taken when your FID card/permits(s) are completed.

INITIAL FIREARMS ID CARD – $5.00 (DUPLICATE CARD – NO CHARGE)

HANDGUN PERMIT – $2.00 PER PERMIT

*You will be receiving automated email updates throughout the process.

*Please do not contact the Raritan Borough Police Department to inquire about the status of your application or permits. Once your application is completed, a member of the department will contact you advising your FID Card and/or Handgun permits are completed and ready to be picked up.

*Please advise your references that the FARS system will email them the reference sheet, which needs to be completed and to complete it ASAP to progress your background investigation.
